Jesus Figueroa, 16, was booked on several charges related to firing shots Saturday night outside Versalles Reception Hall in Mesa.
Police said Figueroa faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault and two gun-related charges.
His bond was set at $1 million.
Denied entry leads to shots fired, police say
Investigators say the teen attempted to go inside a Halloween party that was being held at the reception hall, but he was denied entry. In response, he pointed a gun at the security guard and fired at him, police said.
Mesa Police Det. Jose Aguirre said an off-duty officer was working at the event when gunshots rang out. After shooting at the security guard, the teen ran toward a vehicle as both the security guard and the off-duty Mesa police officer returned fire.
Police say Figueroa continued to run until he was stopped and taken into custody by a separate on-duty Mesa police officer.

Figueroa was shot several times during the incident and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Mesa police.
The off-duty officer, security guard and bystanders were not injured, according to police. However, a man who was inside a vehicle that the teen was running toward was struck by gunfire and also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Scottsdale police are still investigating the off-duty officer-involved shooting as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT).
