TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Authorities responded to a fatal deputy-involved shooting near Bopp and Camino Verde in Pima County on Friday, Sept. 25.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed it happened at a home in the 6700 block of West Kay Lynn Drive around 3:45 p.m.
The PCSD said deputies were called to the home for a domestic dispute and came across a man armed with two sharp objects.
The PCSD said deputies tried to talk with the man, but he walked toward the deputies and ignored several commands. Two deputies fired their weapons; the man was hit and died at the scene.

The PCSD said no deputies or other members of the community were injured.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team was activated to handle the investigation. The Marana Police Department will be the lead agency while the Tucson Police Department will be secondary.
The PCSD will also investigate, but only to ensure its deputies followed department policies.
Friday’s shooting was the 13th involving law enforcement in southern Arizona this year.

- On Jan. 12, a man was injured, and a woman was arrested following a deputy-involved shooting near Interstate 10 and Cortaro Road. PRCIT said 41-year-old Justin Wade Stone pointed a gun at PCSD deputies when he was shot. Stone survived and was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, witness tampering, kidnapping, burglary, vehicle theft, theft, and misconduct involving weapons. Teresa Jean Sturges was also arrested on the same charges, but she later died in an unrelated incident.
- On Jan. 23, 27-year-old Frankie Felipe Silvas was shot by a TPD officer at an apartment complex near Campbell and Bilby in Tucson. Silvas was armed and allegedly pointed a gun at officers and pulled the trigger, but the gun did not go off. Silvas survived and was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, misconduct involving weapons, and drug sales.
- On Jan. 27, 35-year-old Ramon Rafael Preciado-Espinoza was shot by a DPS trooper near Interstate 10 and Speedway in Tucson. DPS said Preciado-Espinoza got into a high-speed chase and hit a pedestrian and the bicyclist when he lost control. The bicyclist, who has not been identified, died. Preciado-Espinoza was then shot when he fired at a trooper.
- On Jan. 27, 34-year-old Patrick Gary Schlegel was shot by a Border Patrol agent on Arivaca Road in Pima County. CBP said Schlegel shot at a Border Patrol helicopter and pointed a gun at agents. Schlegel survived and was charged with attempted murder of a federal officer, assault of a federal officer, transportation of illegal aliens for profit, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
- On April 6, 15-year-old Joannie Jose Armenta was shot by TPD officers during a standoff near 6th and Ajo in Tucson. PRCIT said Armenta pointed an object at the officers and was shot and killed.
- On April 10, an armed man was shot by PCSD deputies near Nogales Highway and Old Vail Road. The PCSD confirmed it was during a swatting incident. The man suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
- On April 10, 65-year-old Luis Francisco Torres was shot and killed near East 22nd Street and South Park Avenue in Tucson. The TPD said Torres pulled out a knife and refused to put it down.
- On April 13, a DEA agent fired their weapon after they were assaulted near Campbell and Irvington in Tucson. It is unclear if anyone was shot, but two suspects were detained.
- On May 25, 39-year-old Berkleigh Jade Bond was shot by a DPS trooper during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Benson. Bond, of Wichita Falls, Texas, had a criminal record in Texas. She was already accused of vehicle burglary, fraud, and property theft.
- On May 31, there was a deputy-involved shooting in the 6900 block of West Naomi Road in Pima County. No one was injured, but 18-year-old Ibrahim Mutwakil Kafi was arrested on charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, disorderly conduct involving the reckless display of a firearm, and resisting arrest.
- On July 1, there was an officer-involved shooting near Interstate 19 and Ajo Way. The suspect suffered serious injuries, but no one else was injured. The PCSD is leading the PRCIT investigation
- On July 19, a TPD officer shot 21-year-old David Leroy French after French allegedly shot nine people in downtown Tucson. The TPD said French pulled a gun during a fight outside of Empire Pizza. The nine victims and French all survived.
