TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson Unified School District sent a letter to parents about tuberculosis at Van Buskirk Elementary School.

The letter states “a person associated with Van Buskirk Elementary School” was recently diagnosed with active tuberculosis.
The school is working with the Pima County Health Department to identify any students and staff who may have been significantly exposed to the case of active TB.
The letter sent to parents states “a person with active TB disease can spread TB bacteria through the air to those who frequently share the same air.”

The Pima County Health Department has not reported this as an emergency.
The TUSD says “public health officials will assess potential exposure and will contact those who may need further information, testing, or other next steps.”
Van Buskirk Elementary School assigned a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Melanie Rodgers at 520-225-3703, at the school to assist with your concerns and questions.
Concerned parents may also contact the Van Buskirk School Health Office, or the Pima County Health Department Tuberculosis Control Program at 520-724-8491.
