TRACY, Calif. (KCRA) – A California high school teacher and football coach was arrested and put on leave after police say students found his cellphone recording them while they changed in the boys’ locker room.

Jeffrey Pribble, a teacher and the head coach of varsity football for Tracy High School, was arrested Friday after his phone was found recording students in the boys’ locker room, according to the Tracy Police Department.
Police say students found a cellphone recording them while changing in the locker room Thursday.
“When the student and other classmates found the cellphone, they were able to pause the recording before deleting it and then turning the phone over to a staff member,” said Kaylin Heefner, a police spokesperson.
Detectives later determined the phone belonged to the 48-year-old Pribble. After an interview, the coach was arrested, and the Tracy Unified School District put him on leave pending the outcome of criminal and administrative investigations.
A student who asked not to be identified said he saw Pribble nearly every day and had previously been encouraged by the coach to join the football team. He described the arrest as a shock.

“He was trying to get me to join football, but that’s not really my thing. I see him every day almost,” the student said. “Something this big to happen, it’s kind of a shock.”
Parents Ryann Carlson and Brittney Plummer said the allegations against Pribble raised concerns about privacy and the trust families place in teachers and coaches.
“That’s supposed to be their privacy to get dressed for PE or whatever they’re doing it for,” Carlson said.
The parents said students are particularly vulnerable in a locker room setting.
“The teachers are supposed to do their job and not do inappropriate stuff with the kids,” they said. “It’s scary. They’re vulnerable at that point.”
Police say detectives are now interviewing students, looking for additional witnesses and determining whether there could be other evidence or incidents.
