PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Phoenix man says he was stabbed nine times during a break-in at his girlfriend’s home, an attack he says was carried out by her ex-boyfriend.

Roy Stubblefield Jr. was indicted on four felony counts in connection with the attack, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, first degree burglary and aggravated assault with serious physical injury.
Kameron Willis said the attack happened at his girlfriend’s home near 19th Avenue and Cactus Road on the evening of Aug. 13.
“It’s one of those you like see it on TV and never really expect it to happen to you in real life,” Willis said.
Warning signs before the attack
Around 5 p.m., Willis said his girlfriend’s phone had been lighting up with calls from unknown numbers and an Instagram account.
“Just repeatedly calling, calling, starting the call, dropping the call, and then calling back from one of the other like three or four options that were coming through the phone,” Willis explained.
Willis said he then heard someone outside. Moments later, a man with a knife came through a back window.
“As I’m getting up and like going to check it out, also, like starting to dial 911 on my phone, he’s breaking in through the back window with a knife and like stabbing through the screen door,” he said.

Struggle inside the home
Willis said he tried to fight off the attacker and protect his girlfriend. During the struggle, Willis ended up pinned to the floor.
“I slipped on my own blood, and I fell to the ground. And so he, I guess, just like jumped on top of me and that’s where most of the rest of the stab wounds came from,” he described.
Willis said the attacker eventually fled, leaving him bleeding from nine stab wounds. He was rushed to a nearby trauma center in critical condition.
A month after the brutal attack, Willis is still continuing his recovery.
Motive remains unclear
Stubblefield faces four felony counts in connection with the alleged attack. The motive is still unknown, but Willis said knowing what could have happened is what haunts him most.
“My thing is he was trying to get to her, like clearly trying to get to my girlfriend, which is kind of the thing that keeps me up at night, like sleepless,” Willis said.
