Slatten shared her diagnosis in an Instagram post Tuesday morning.

“With a heavy heart we wanted to share a news with all of you guys. That, there was a rumor that I had a stroke, but it turned out to be ALS,” Slatten wrote.

She continued, “At first, we tried to keep it private because it’s been very emotional and overwhelming for us. We were hoping to find some kind of solution before speaking publicly. But after trying for some time, we feel like it’s time to reach out.”

Slatten thanked her fans for their love and support and said she is “open to any kind of help — treatments, clinical trials, lifestyle changes, or anything that could help treat this disease or slow down its progression.”

In a new interview with People, Slatten shared more details about her ALS diagnosis. She said she learned of her diagnosis in December, one year after she started showing symptoms.

Slatten said her first symptom appeared in December 2024 when she choked while drinking water. She then had trouble swallowing pills and suffered migraines.

She then started to notice her speech slowing, and she finally went to the doctor for an official diagnosis in December 2025.

Slatten’s father died of ALS more than a decade ago.

Slatten, 68, lives in India with her husband Sumit Singh, 38. She is originally from California.

The 30-year age gap in their relationship caused years of turmoil with Singh’s parents, which was documented on the TLC show.

Following her diagnosis, Slatten said she and Singh are both scared for what the future holds. She is exploring possible treatment options, though ALS does not have a cure.

The couple plans to stay in India and “live our life as we have been while we can,” Slatten told People.

The couple initially appeared on season one of “90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way” in 2019. After becoming fan favorites, the couple appeared on several follow-up seasons of the show.

The couple will appear on season three of “90 Day: The Last Resort,” which premieres on TLC June 1.
