NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Gray News) — Dolly Parton was laid to rest Friday at a private funeral in Nashville, according to her family.

Parton’s great-niece Lainey Parton made an Instagram post Saturday, confirming that the funeral took place the day before.
Lainey Parton referred to Dolly Parton as her “Aunt Granny.”
“I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words,” she wrote on Instagram. “From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough. She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something. She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself.”
Dolly Parton died Aug. 25 at age 80. Her family said she died after a brief battle with cancer but did not say what type.
According to People, only immediate family members attended the funeral at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
Dolly Parton’s social media pages said she had requested her funeral to be small and private.

Dolly Parton was laid to rest next to her husband of 59 years, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025.
Dean was interred in a mausoleum at the cemetery, and a large plaque that also listed Dolly Parton’s name was mounted. The plaque also displays the couple’s wedding date and a pair of wedding rings.
“A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family,” her online obituary said.
The obituary continued, “Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.”
In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at www.imaginationlibrary.com.
