TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson Seminoles have been suspended from play by the Sonoran Desert American Youth Football Conference.

The action comes two years after 13 News’ Valerie Cavazos first raised questions about the youth football and cheer organization.

Conference cites rule violations
The conference said rules are not being followed.
It said several requirements must be met, including player certification, organizational leadership and game-day safety.
Families seek releases
Some families want to leave the organization.
The conference said it received an overwhelming number of release requests and got special permission to let Seminoles athletes transfer to other teams.
Seminoles board secretary Dre’Quel Anderson has five children on football and cheer teams.
“I felt good yesterday because my kids were released. They could go play on a team, and it was almost like a false sense of achievement. Like, ‘Okay, we got out. That’s what you wanted, right?’ … but I didn’t get what I wanted. There are parents out there who are hurting,” Anderson said.

Season already underway
National rules normally do not allow players to be released once they have played a game. The season has already started.
The conference does not yet know whether the departures could leave some Seminoles teams without enough players in the future.
Conference leaders said they have never seen anything like this in the organization’s roughly five-year history.
