TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man is accused of secretly filming people inside bathroom stalls at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus — an alleged habit he told investigators he’s carried out for several years.

ASU police arrested Christopher Sutherland, 33, in connection to the alleged crime.
On Tuesday, ASU police received reports of a suspicious person who was taking a picture over the bathroom stall inside of Noble Library. Officers spoke with the victim, who gave a description of Sutherland and where he was last seen walking.
The victim told police that he saw the phone over the bathroom stall and confronted Sutherland. Court documents state the victim was able to take a picture of Sutherland before he left the library.
ASU’s real time analysis center tracked Sutherland to the business college, where he was detained by police.
Court paperwork states Sutherland agreed to show an officer multiple videos that were saved in a folder, which showed the unaware victim using the bathroom. The videos were reportedly taken from underneath the stall and from above.
The victim confirmed to police that Sutherland was the one he saw in the bathroom, and Sutherland was then taken into custody.
In an interview with police, Sutherland reportedly admitted he went on campus with the intent to film men inside of bathrooms. He claimed that it was an “urge” he gets, and he specifically comes to take videos of men in the stalls, according to police. He said no one knew he was filming or that he was watching the videos for his own pleasure, court documents state.

Sutherland reportedly went into the bathrooms inside the business college and secretly filmed three people. He then told police he went to Noble Library and went into the bathroom, where he recorded two people without their knowledge. Police say it was when he was filming the last victim that he was caught, leading to the confrontation.
According to court documents, Sutherland told police that this has been an ongoing activity for the past five years, describing that he secretly films people at least once a month.
A folder on Sutherland’s phone allegedly showed dozens of videos of men, some undressed, inside bathroom stalls. His Google Photos folder revealed more secret videos and photos, investigators said. Sutherland admitted that he also stores the photos and videos on his computer at home, according to court documents.
Authorities noted that signs on some ASU buildings specify that they are only for ASU students, and investigators believe Sutherland is unaffiliated with the school.
Since Sutherland is not an ASU student or staff member, police booked him on one count of burglary and one count of criminal trespass. He is also facing one count of voyeurism and one count of unlawful viewing and recording.
