Hit-and-run crash leaves woman dead on north Phoenix road

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who left a woman dead in the Deer Valley area in north Phoenix late Sunday night.

According to the police, a witness said Erika Monique Garcia, 39, was either lying or bent over in the crosswalk at 27th Avenue and Villa Maria Drive, south of Union Hills Drive.

The witness left and then returned to find that Garcia had been hit around 10:30 p.m.

The driver involved was nowhere to be found.

Firefighters arrived and took Garcia to the hospital, where she later died.
