CATALINA FOOTHILLS, AZ (AZFamily) — The CEO of Flock Safety, the license plate reader camera company facing scrutiny over officer misuse, says his technology could have cracked the high-profile disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.

“We would have solved that case,” Founder and CEO Garrett Langley told Vanity Fair, the magazine published Friday. “One hundred percent… There’s no doubt in my mind.”
Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her Catalina Foothills home on Jan. 31 and reported missing the following day. Investigators believe she was kidnapped or taken against her will.
The case remains unsolved over six months later, with tens of thousands of tips still being actively worked and DNA evidence being analyzed by labs across the country.
Langley’s comments come as Flock Safety finds itself at the center of a growing nationwide controversy.
Several Arizona law enforcement agencies have suspended use of license plate reading cameras this month after discovering misuse among officers. Sixty police departments across Arizona currently use Flock cameras.

The company says the surge in reported misuse cases is a direct result of its own AI audit tool, which was rolled out in April.
Arizona’s Family has reached out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to ask whether the agency uses Flock Safety cameras and whether the technology was part of the Nancy Guthrie investigation.
The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to her recovery. The FBI is also offering a $100,000 reward. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip at tips.fbi.gov.
