MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WFIE/Gray News) — A Kentucky doctor accidentally left her grandchild unattended in a hot car for about eight hours, leading to the baby’s death, police said.
Madisonville police said the death happened Thursday.
Police said the baby’s grandmother picked the baby up in the morning and was supposed to take the child to daycare.
She forgot the child was in the car and went to work, police said.
She arrived at Owensboro Health Multi-Care, the medical clinic at which she is a doctor, around 8 a.m.
The baby’s father called his wife after he tried to pick up the baby from daycare, but the child was not there.

The baby’s mother called the grandmother at work, and the grandmother ran outside and saw the baby was still in the vehicle around 4 p.m., police said.
After 911 was called, first responders tried to administer lifesaving measures, but the baby died.
As part of standard procedures, the grandmother was given a blood test, but police do not suspect any intoxication.

The case will go to a grand jury after police finish their investigation.
As of now, no charges have been filed.
