TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A Tucson man, a former University of Arizona employee, has waived extradition and will be brought to Nebraska to face 64 child sex crime charges.

During a no-bond and fugitive warrant extradition hearing on Friday, Aug. 14, Daniel Ray Contreras agreed to be extradited to Hall County, Nebraska.
Authorities from that state were ordered to pick him up in the next 30 days.
Contreras has been accused of trying to coax a teen girl into sex acts, including bestiality.
According to court documents, the 35-year-old Contreras spent months talking to what he thought was a 14-year-old girl online. Thankfully, the teen turned out to be an undercover officer.
Contreras made his initial appearance in Pima County Court late Monday, Aug. 10, and a judge ordered him held without bond.
He is facing 64 counts out of Hall County, Nebraska. The charges include six counts of human trafficking of a minor, five counts of visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct, 20 counts of enticement, and 33 counts of use of a communication device to commit sexual assault.
The Tucson Police Department said its Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit assisted the Grand Island (Neb.) Police Department with Contreras’ arrest, which happened on Monday, Aug. 11.
The TPD said detectives believe there may be other minor victims in the Tucson area, and anyone with information should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
The TPD said the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and Homeland Security Investigations helped find Contreras.

Contreras could face life in prison there, and may be charged federally as the alleged crimes happened across state lines.
Some of the messages between Contreras and “the girl” were extremely graphic and almost all included sex acts. The affidavit refers to dozens of social media messages dating from June 2025 to as late as Aug. 5, 2026.
Contreras allegedly even tried to get the girl to have sex with her own dog, and asked about the dog’s penis size and talked about his own penis.
The University of Arizona confirmed Contreras is a former employee. According to his online bio, he worked as a business administrator.
A public defender said Contreras has no criminal history and is a lifelong resident of Tucson. They asked him to be released to pretrial services or for a much lower bond.
