The FBI said a man entered a bank at 27th Street and Camelback Road about 12:30 p.m., fired his rifle once and the round went into the ceiling. No one was hurt.
The thief left the bank with an unknown amount of cash and drove off in a small box truck.
According to federal agents, Phoenix police followed the suspect until an officer in a cruiser used a “grappler” to stop the truck about 15 minutes north of Anthem on Interstate 17.
