SAN LUIS, AZ (AZFamily) — A San Luis High School digital photography teacher has been fired after being arrested and charged with multiple felony sex crimes involving a 17-year-old student, authorities said. Investigators believe there may be additional victims.

Genesis Alvarado, 27, is facing three felony charges, including sexual conduct with a minor. He remains in custody at the Yuma County Jail.
The San Luis Police Department initiated the investigation on Aug. 6 after school personnel reported the allegations.
According to San Luis police Lt. Emmanuel Botello, the police department was notified after students overheard comments regarding the situation on campus and informed a teacher.
“We understand that they knew each other, obviously, from school grounds,” Botello said. “During our investigation, we were able to find out that they had other outside activities where they interacted together.”
The Yuma Union High School District confirmed that Alvarado had been a photography teacher at San Luis High School since 2024. Following the allegations, the district terminated his employment on Friday.
“San Luis High School immediately reported the allegations to the San Luis Police Department upon being notified, and the district took action to terminate Alvarado’s employment on Aug. 7,” the district said in a statement.

The arrest has left the campus community reeling.
“When I found out, I was pretty shocked,” said Angel Zarate, a student who had Alvarado as a teacher last year. “He was one of my favorites last year; he was just so cool.”
However, Zarate noted that some of Alvarado’s behavior stood out.
“He would talk a lot to girls, mostly girls than boys. He would comment on their TikToks and stuff,” Zarate said. “I always found that kind of weird but never thought he would be doing all of that.”
During a court appearance on Tuesday morning, a judge reduced Alvarado’s bond from $200,000 to $100,000.
Police are urging any other potential victims or anyone with information related to the case to contact the San Luis Police Department immediately.
