ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU/Gray News) – Alaskan authorities have identified the human remains that were found inside a freezer last month.

According to the Juneau Police Department, the remains were identified as those of Ross Pasquan.
Juneau Police Chief Derek Bos said Pasquan had been residing at the property for some period of time, but investigators have not been able to pin down his age because the exact time of his death remains unknown.
“We have a very broad time frame,” Bos said. “That broad time range is somewhere between the last four to 10 years.”
The medical examiner has not yet finalized a cause or manner of death.
Bos noted that investigators are treating the case as a suspicious death as they are also examining whether Pasquan’s death was concealed for financial gain.
“It’s too soon to say if it was a homicide,” he said.
Juneau police said their investigation started last month after a family member reported finding what they believed was a human body inside a chest freezer while cleaning out the home of a late family member.
“When officers arrived, they contacted that person, got an initial statement as to the circumstances and upon inspection found what appeared to be a human body wrapped up in a tarp,” Bos said.
Officers then contacted criminal investigations to take over the case.
Authorities said the human remains were found in an outbuilding at the property where access had been limited. Bos said the property owner was deceased and the estate was in the probate process, leaving ownership unresolved.

“The access was very minimal as ownership was kind of in question,” he said. “Currently, a family member doesn’t own the property.”
No missing-person report for Pasquan had ever been filed. Bos described it as consistent with the death being concealed.
“Nobody was just asking the question where he was,” Bos said. “Anytime a death is concealed, there’s questions you have to ask … why was it concealed? Was that because it was a homicide? And what does somebody have to gain from this person’s death or concealing this person’s death?
Bos said financial gains are normally one of the top things investigators would check outside of a homicide in such death investigations.
Investigators said they are also working to identify Pasquan’s regular contacts, including medical providers and employers.
