ATLANTA, Ga. (ANF/Gray News) – A mother was arrested after her baby was found dead inside a hot car after she said she forgot to drop him off at a Georgia daycare.

Lawrenceville police were called to Northside Gwinnett Hospital shortly before 4 p.m. July 29 after receiving reports about an unresponsive child locked in a car. They broke the window to get to the child, who was found to already be dead in his car seat.
The child’s mother, 29-year-old Deja Coleman, works at the hospital and was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children, police said. She was taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
During a news conference on Thursday, Capt. Dena Pauly said the mother dropped off her other two children at daycare but forgot to bring the baby inside.

When officers measured the temperature inside the car an hour after the child was found, it was 117 degrees.
Pauly said the mother was “devastated” when she learned about her child’s death.
“Slow down. Slow down in life,” Pauly said. “If you need help, seek help. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself so that you can take care of your children.”
