CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — A pilot has died after a small airplane crashed near Chandler Municipal Airport on Tuesday evening.

Crews were called to the reported plane down in the area of McQueen and Queen Creek roads, just outside the airport, around 8 p.m.
A Chandler Fire Department spokesperson confirmed one person was on board and has been pronounced dead.
Video from Arizona’s Family news helicopter showed a fire-damaged plane that crashed near a desert area.

Arizona’s Family is working to learn more about what led up to the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to be on scene to examine the crash site in the coming hours.
