MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — New details reveal how a Mesa man’s alibi fell apart in his girlfriend’s murder case, with surveillance video placing him at the scene during hours he claimed to be at work, police said.

Officers first responded to an apartment complex on Hibbert Street, west of Mesa Drive and south of University, in downtown Mesa on Tuesday just after 11 a.m.
The caller, identified as 37-year-old Kyle Collins, told dispatchers he had returned home to find his girlfriend not moving and said he was performing CPR while waiting for help to arrive.
When officers and fire crews arrived, they found 36-year-old Cierra Tellez dead on the floor inside the apartment.

According to a newly released probable cause statement, Tellez suffered severe injuries across her body, with a broken metal cane nearby believed to have been used as a weapon.
Detectives reported finding a lot of blood in three different rooms of the apartment, and noted Collins appeared to “shift” when paramedics pronounced Tellez dead.
Conflicting information
Collins told officers he had left for work at Reset, a culinary facility for convicted felons in Phoenix, that morning and that Tellez was not hurt when he left.
According to court records, however, surveillance video from a neighboring apartment showed Collins was in and out of the apartment during the times he claimed to be at work.
At 8:15 a.m., he was seen leaving the apartment wearing only camouflage shorts and no shirt, wiping down his chest and arms with a towel before re-entering, according to police.
Collins’ employer also confirmed he never came to work that day, according to court records. His mother had called in a sick day on his behalf, telling his employer that Collins had just found out his girlfriend had cheated on him and needed time to “clear his head.”
Surveillance video also confirmed that Tellez entered the apartment after a board game gathering the night before and never left again, reports said.

What the neighbor saw
A neighbor who asked to remain anonymous said he spent Monday evening with Collins.
“We were outside playing Monopoly,” the neighbor said. “Everything was fine, nothing was off.”
The neighbor said Collins came to his door early Tuesday morning, upset, and told him he had gotten into a fight with Tellez.
“He came out, flipping out,” the neighbor said. “He came and knocked on my door and was telling me about it, and then went and called his mom and was on the phone with his mom for an hour.”
“It’s my fault”
When asked directly if he had put his hands on Tellez, Collins reportedly replied, “That’s a lie, that is a lie,” before adding: “I already know I’m f*****. Like I really am, I f***** up, it’s my fault.”
He then invoked his right to an attorney.
Police said that during the jail booking process, Collins was overheard telling staff, when asked if he had plans to hurt himself or others, “Yeah, both.”
He also reportedly asked, within earshot of other inmates, whether he was being charged with anything other than homicide.
Collins was booked on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping, with a bond set at $1.25 million cash only. Prosecutors said Collins has a prior criminal history of domestic violence and kidnapping.
