The Coronado National Forest said the Shaw Peak Fire was burning high in the northern portion of the mountains.

Due to the weather, they were not able to fly and were unable to get an estimate for the fire’s size.

Crews were able to confirm that some smoke and flames were visible.

“Firefighters will engage throughout the night,” the CNF said in a release. “Full suppression tactics are being implemented.”

While there are no closures or evacuations as of Wednesday night, the CNF asked people to avoid any recreational activities in this area “due to the potential hazards, as well as increased fire personnel and vehicles accessing the area.”
