Monsoon shreds Glendale mobile home park, residents brace for more storms

GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A powerful monsoon storm swept through parts of the West Valley, leaving behind damaged homes and debris at the Palm Shadows Mobile Home Park.

Strong winds, rain, and blowing dust hit the community, tearing carports from their supports and scattering debris across yards and neighboring properties.

Residents describe the damage

Resident Jeff Gomez said the storm struck overnight. “We heard something hit the house and my wife ran out and she was like the whole carport is gone,” Gomez said.

Gomez’s carport was ripped from its supports, leaving debris spread across his yard and into neighboring properties. “I mean it was unbelievable. We were just like, ‘Wow,’” he said.

Neighbors also hit hard

Down the street, Jaqueline Devera’s home also sustained significant damage. Devera said the winds were strong enough to nearly blow away half her home.

“It’s devastating because I never thought it would happen to me,” Devera said.

She said she heard the storm’s impact on her vehicles. “I heard it land on two of our cars. Like a big thud on our cars, and I knew we were in trouble.”

Cleanup and costs uncertain

Residents said cleanup is just beginning, with repair costs still unknown. Devera said she is uncertain what she will do if insurance does not cover the damage. “If my insurance doesn’t pay it out, I don’t know what we’re going to do,” she said.

With additional storms in the forecast, residents said they are bracing for what comes next. “Scared for the next one. Worried that something bad is going to happen worse than it already did,” Devera said.

Gomez summed up the storm’s impact: “Yeah, it’s no joke.”
