Plenty to celebrate at University of Arizona commencement ceremony

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Nearly 10,000 degrees will be conferred at the University of Arizona’s 162nd commencement ceremony tonight.

About 40,000 people are expected at Casino del Sol Stadium to watch the Class of 2026 officially become alumni.

“Our priority is to help them get connected to each other and to campus. We also want to support their wellbeing both physically, mentally and then get them to a place where they can build on that,” said Amanda Kraus, vice president of student affairs.

The university will graduate 126 student-athletes this year with a record 3.4 GPA in Arizona history, according to Desiree Reed-Francois, R. Ken Coit director of athletics.

“It’s a little bit of chaos, but it’s so worth it at the end of the day,” said Jackson Francois, an Arizona men’s basketball senior.

Nikayla Wagner, a psychology major and member of the Navajo Nation, said her whole family has been apart of her journey to get here.

“My family’s investment in me is paying off…it’s rewarding that all the sleepless nights is over,” Wagner said.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the ceremony starts at 7:30 p.m. A clear bag policy is in effect.
