And lifeguards are especially important during the recent First Alert Weather Days for heat as folks flock to Valley-area public pools for a cheap way to cool off.
Recently, the City of Goodyear’s lifeguard team placed first at the 2026 Arizona Lifeguard Challenge. The team beat 20 other teams from across the state, becoming the first West Valley winners since the event started in the 1980s!
The annual competition, coordinated by the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association and sponsored by the Michael Phelps Foundation, put the lifeguards to the test, making sure their first aid, speed, CPR skills and more were up to par.
Goodyear was represented by lifeguards Bella Faser, J.P. Roberts, Dominic Saenz, Makennah Hubler and Brooke Woeslaw. Congratulations!
