ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) – A 58-year-old woman was charged after allegedly attempting to kill her husband while he was asleep Tuesday morning, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities said Paula Marlowe admitted to slashing her husband’s throat while he was sleeping around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said that Jerry Marlowe was found with a large laceration on his neck that extended to his shoulder.
Officials said that Paula Marlowe first told deputies that Jerry Marlowe woke her up and allegedly told her he needed to go to the hospital because he was bleeding.

The sheriff’s office interviewed Paula Marlowe, and she confessed to assaulting her husband while he was asleep.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said that Paula Marlowe intended to kill her husband, set the home on fire and then take her own life due to alleged financial difficulties.
Deputies said that Paula Marlowe got scared and did not go through with the planned assault.

Jerry Marlowe was seriously injured, but survived the attack.
Paula Marlowe was charged with attempted first-degree murder.
