TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said emergency crews recovered a hiker’s body from Sabino Canyon on Tuesday, June 30.

The PCSD said deputies and Rural Metro responded to the Bear Canyon Trail after a 911 hang-up around 7:30 a.m.
Deputies determined a hiker called 911 after locating a woman’s body around 1 1/2 miles from the trailhead.
The PCSD said the 66-year-old woman was pronounced dead on the scene. Her name will not be released until her family is notified.
The PCSD said the remote location required the use of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office helicopter to lift the body out.

The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner responded and will determine the cause and manner of death.
It was the second hiker death the PCSD responded to in a week. On June 23, 75-year-old Robin Janes died on the Brown Mountain hiking trail.
