PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Detectives are investigating after first responders found a body on fire overnight near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Just after midnight Friday, police and firefighters were called to reports of a fire near a canal at 44th Street and Washington Street. Firefighters extinguished the flames and discovered the charred remains of an adult male.
Officers secured the surrounding area, and detectives have responded to investigate what led to the man’s death.
Northbound 44th Street is closed from Madison Street to Washington as the investigation unfolds. Phoenix PD Sgt. John Buchanan says the area will likely be closed into early Friday afternoon.
