Prosecutors said the suspect, Ali Hchaili, has a track record of targeting vulnerable, elderly victims.

On June 20, just before 3 p.m., Hchaili allegedly stole a woman’s purse near Beardsley and Deer Valley roads in Glendale. Prosecutors said that after the theft, Hchaili ran over the victim with his vehicle while her husband watched and then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where she died, Glendale police said.

Investigators obtained footage from the Real Time Crime Center and saw he was driving a dark red sedan. He was later arrested and is facing murder and robbery charges.

Prosecutors said that just five days before the incident, Hchaili followed another elderly woman after watching her withdraw money from a bank. He allegedly pushed the woman and stole her purse with her money and medication inside. Prosecutors said the purse was later found discarded.
