New Phoenix fireworks restrictions begin Saturday. Here’s what changes

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — As the Fourth of July nears and temperatures climb across the Valley, the city of Phoenix is implementing new safety precautions for consumer fireworks.

Starting Saturday, the city will move into Stage 1 fire restrictions. That means consumer fireworks that residents may legally buy and use cannot be used within 1 mile of mountain preserves, desert parks, regional parks, conservation areas, national forests and wilderness areas.

Earlier this month, Phoenix also introduced restrictions that ban all fireworks on any city-owned property or park and within 1 mile of mountain preserves.

The city says the measures align with Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management Stage 1 restrictions already in place and are intended to reduce the risk of fires sparked by legal consumer fireworks during hot, dry conditions.

An interactive map on the city’s website allows residents to enter an address to see whether it falls inside a restricted zone.

The temporary measures are aimed at protecting residents, property and natural open spaces during a period of elevated fire risk.
