WELLS, Nev. (KOLO) – The Bureau of Land Management says 1,001 wild horses were collected during an operation gathering excess wild horses.

The operation took place on June 13 near Elko and Ely. 700 horses were gathered Antelope and 301 excess horses were taken from the Triple B Complexes on public lands.

The BLM says the gather was conducted to reduce the overpopulation of horses in the area to prevent land degradation.

The horses were taken to the Indian Lakes Off-Range Corrals.
