Arizona’s Family first reported two weeks ago that the U.S. State Department falsely claimed that Lake was the “proud” winner of two of the prestigious awards. It was part of an official biography outlining Lake’s qualifications to become the next U.S. ambassador to Jamaica.
Lake was involved in the 2023 protest song titled “81 Million Votes My Ass,” which climbed Billboard charts.
However, producer L.J. Fino told Arizona’s Family that Lake got a plaque for the song, but it did not win an official Billboard Music Award.
“(Lake’s) record reached #1 on multiple Billboard charts and she received a Billboard chart plaque,” Fino said in a statement.
