Texas homicide suspect arrested near Benson

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Arizona Department of Public Safety assisted in the arrest of a homicide suspect who was travelling through southern Arizona on May 30.

AZDPS said officers were alerted that 65-year-old Bruce Kenton Jeffers was travelling on Interstate-10 in a white GMC pickup truck.

Crews were able issue a traffic stop on I-10 near Benson and arrest Jeffers.

Jeffers was wanted in Anderson County Texas in connection to a homicide on May 29.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said Jeffers fatally shot his ex-girlfriend, 54-year-old Joni Williams of Palestine Texas.

Jeffers was arrested on a full extradition warrant for violating bond conditions and possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest.

AZDPS said Jeffers was booked into the Cochise County Jail with a bond of $300,000 and is awaiting extradition to Texas.
