NEWPORT, Tenn. (WVLT/Gray News) – A man is accused of killing a dog that he intended to eat.

According to the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spoke with a person who said they witnessed Eddie McCoig killing a dog.
“I told Eddie that I was there to investigate an alleged killing of a dog and then the dog had been skinned … Eddie stated he did shoot his dog, slit its throat, skinned it and was going to eat it,” the deputy wrote in the report.

The deputy was given permission to look inside a red cooler, where the dog’s remains were found.

Three more dogs were taken from McCoig.
McCoig was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
