Marcus Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald Jr.’s brother, shared the news on X, formerly known as Twitter.
He said Fitzgerald Sr. died Monday afternoon surrounded by his family and “the people who loved him the most.”
Fitzgerald Sr. was a sportswriter for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder.
“A devoted father, husband, grandfather, and a true pioneer in the Minnesota broadcasting community, he spent his life pouring into the people and the city he loved so much,” Marcus Fitzgerald said in the post.
My heart breaks for Larry.
I sat next to Larry Sr. at the Cardinals playoff game in Carolina in 2014 and learned so much about football that day.
I know his dad would have loved being at Larry’s Hall of Fame induction later this summer. https://t.co/w9YBKrl4uB
