Just before 5 a.m., police were called to a crash involving a pedestrian near 59th Avenue and Van Buren Street, on a southbound Loop 202 (South Mountain) on-ramp.
When officers arrived, they found that a woman had been hit by a Valley Metro bus, according to the Phoenix Police Department. She died at the scene and has not been publicly identified.
Phoenix PD Lt. Ann Justus says the bus was eastbound on Van Buren and making a turn south onto the frontage road when it hit the woman. It is unclear if the woman was in the crosswalk.
Investigators will review footage from the buses’ cameras to determine what led up to the crash. Police say the woman who was driving the bus was the only person on board.
