Woman on e-scooter dies after being hit by vehicle near Phoenix gas station

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Police are investigating after a woman riding an electric scooter was struck and killed outside a gas station in Phoenix Wednesday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., police officers and fire crews were called to a crash involving a pedestrian near 7th Avenue and Broadway Road. They found an unresponsive woman at the scene, who was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

She died a short time later. Her name has not yet been released.

Phoenix police say the woman was riding an e-scooter and “failed to control its speed” before colliding with a vehicle turning into a parking lot.

The driver involved remained at the scene, and there were no signs of impairment. Detectives are investigating.

Video from AZFamily’s drone showed a scooter lying near a gas station entrance. Police had also taped off an area of the parking lot, near a pickup truck hauling a trailer.
