TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Pima Animal Care Center said more than 100 animals were rescued from a home on Tucson\u2019s southwest side.<\/p>\n

PACC said the animals \u201cspent their lives inside small wire crates with minimal access to food and water.\u201d<\/p>\n

PACC said the owners surrendered the animals, which include dogs, cats, and a Patagonian mara, so they will be adoptable when medically cleared.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Animal Protection Services unit deserves a ton of credit for managing this intake,\u201d said PACC Director Steve Kozachik. \u201cWe\u2019re fortunate to have a hoard facility where we can provide temporary housing and care for these animals, but now we need the public to help us rehome them. PACC was already full. We could not turn a blind eye to the life-threatening conditions these animals were being kept in, and so now we turn to the community for help getting not only these pups into homes, but the large number of dogs we already have at PACC. It takes a village, and we\u2019re calling on the village to give these pups a chance.\u201d<\/p>\n

PACC said the dogs included small breeds, like pugs and yorkies, along with a few larger livestock-guardian breeds. The Patagonian mara has already been placed, but it is \u201ca rabbit-like rodent native to Argentina,\u201d according to PACC.<\/p>\n

PACC said most of the dogs will be available at the main shelter at 4000 North Silverbell Road, but others will be at the Eastside PACC Adoption Center, which opens June 1. The new facility is located at Broadway and Kolb.<\/p>\n

HOW TO HELP PACC<\/b><\/h3>\n

Get a free tag: Pet owners can get a tag for their pet\u2019s collar any time the shelter is open from the Central Pet store in the adoption lobby. The free tags are also available at Friends Pet Clinic, 2661 North 1st Avenue. These tags are for any pet owner in Pima County, not just PACC adopters. <\/p>\n

Foster: PACC is in need of fosters for medium to large dogs. People who are interested in fostering can sign up online or visit the shelter in person. <\/p>\n

Adopt: Adopting a large dog saves the life of that dog and the dog that will move into its space. <\/p>\n

Donate: Donations to Friends of Pima Animal Care Center help fund more outreach events where free vaccines can be distributed. <\/p>\n

All dogs at PACC currently have no adoption fees. Adopters only need to pay a $20 licensing fee to adopt a dog. <\/p>\n
