STRONGSVILLE, Ohio (WOIO\/Gray News) \u2014 Mackenzie Shirilla\u2019s father has been placed on administrative leave following the release of the new Netflix documentary \u201cThe Crash.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shirilla crashed her vehicle on July 31, 2022, in Strongsville, Ohio. She was traveling 100 mph and slammed into a brick wall, killing her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and their friend, Davion Flanagan.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors argued that Shirilla crashed her car on purpose, intending to kill her boyfriend and friend.<\/p>\n

In 2023, a Cuyahoga County judge found Shirilla guilty of multiple charges, including murder and aggravated vehicular homicide. She was sentenced to life in prison with eligibility for parole after 15 years served.<\/p>\n

The new Netflix documentary \u201cThe Crash\u201d puts Shirilla\u2019s case back into the spotlight.<\/p>\n

Her father, Steve Shirilla, has now been placed on administrative leave from his position at Mary Queen of Peace School in Cleveland since the documentary\u2019s release.<\/p>\n

According to the school\u2019s website, he is the art and digital media teacher.<\/p>\n

In an email to parents, the school said one of its teachers \u201chas demonstrated poor judgment\u201d and was placed on administrative leave.<\/p>\n

Steve Shirilla said he believes he was placed on leave due to comments he made in the documentary.<\/p>\n

He said he is upset with Netflix for how his comments were edited, saying more of what he said was not used in the film.<\/p>\n

Steve Shirilla also said he believes his daughter is innocent and that there is more to the story.<\/p>\n

A school parent, who asked to remain anonymous, told WOIO that students love and respect Steve Shirilla as a teacher.<\/p>\n
