PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG\/Gray News) – Florida authorities say a daycare worker is facing charges after a baby suffered severe injuries while in her care.<\/p>\n

According to the Bay County Sheriff\u2019s Office, LaKayla Hamilton has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse stemming from an investigation into a child being injured at Quality Learning Childcare Center. <\/p>\n

Deputies say they responded to a hospital after medical personnel reported a CT scan showing a 3-month-old baby having multiple injuries that included skull fractures, a fractured leg, ribs and a brain bleed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese injuries were not consistent with something that would be from an accidental type of fall. This was definitely an inflicted trauma that someone did to this child,\u201d Bay County Lieutenant Stephen Rhinehart said. <\/p>\n

Investigators noted that the baby was not injured before being dropped off at the child care center, and that his injuries occurred while the infant was in the care of Hamilton, who was assigned to supervise four children at the time of the abuse.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know that she really cares about any of these kids if she could do this to this kid for no real reason,\u201d Rhinehart said.<\/p>\n

Investigators said Hamilton first lied about what happened before telling them she \u201cspazzed out.\u201d They say she told them that she came to work that day upset over personal issues, then received a text that made her anger worse.<\/p>\n

During her confession, she said she directed that rage toward the baby by violently slamming him multiple times into his crib and onto a changing table, so hard she said she could hear the baby\u2019s head strike the crib frame beneath the mattress, investigators said. <\/p>\n

Hamilton also allegedly struck the boy in the head with toys, squeezing and shaking him. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe not only admitted but she demonstrated how she physically slammed the child down into the child\u2019s crib that was at the day care where the child was kept during the day, and then also admitted to hitting the child numerous times with not only her hands but also other objects in the room,\u201d Rhinehart said.<\/p>\n

Investigators say Hamilton confessed to doing this a second time during the day as well, abusing the child in the same manner, happening in a span of four hours.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re picking up a small child and repeatedly slamming it into a piece of furniture inside a room, and you have other people inside the building who are also adults and are teachers, I guess you\u2019re going to call them. I\u2019m just curious to know if someone else knew something,\u201d Rhinehart said. \u201cWe\u2019ve interviewed the other teachers; they so far have said that there\u2019s nothing that they\u2019re aware of. If someone was aware of this going on and never said something, that will be dealt with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamilton had her first appearance in court on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis affidavit was certainly disturbing at best. I don\u2019t know that I\u2019ve seen worse than this as far as child abuse is concerned,\u201d Judge Dyer William said.<\/p>\n

William banned Hamilton from having unsupervised contact with children and from working at any day care facility. She was also given a $1 million bond.<\/p>\n

Rhinehart said the injured child was in stable condition and is receiving medical care in Pensacola, but it was unknown if there would be long-term health complications.<\/p>\n
