PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 An armed robber who fired a shot inside a Phoenix Chase Bank made off with a little over $2,000 before being caught shortly afterward.<\/p>\n

Federal officials said Calvin Eklund entered a bank at 27th Street and Camelback Road around 12:30 p.m. Monday with a small dog. According to court documents, when entering the bank, Eklund yelled something to the effect of, \u201cThis is a f***ing robbery!\u201d <\/p>\n

He fired his rifle once into the ceiling, officials said. No one was hurt.<\/p>\n

Eklund then allegedly demanded money from a teller. Approximately $2,118 was put in the suspect\u2019s bag, officials said.<\/p>\n

He left the bank in a white Ford van, which was later spotted by a Phoenix Police Department helicopter, federal officials said in a probable cause statement.<\/p>\n

Phoenix police followed the suspect until an officer in a cruiser used a \u201cgrappler\u201d to stop the van about 15 minutes north of Anthem on Interstate 17.<\/p>\n

Bank surveillance video showed Eklund in gray or beige shorts, cowboy boots, a dark long-sleeve shirt, and a red baseball cap with \u201cTRUMP\u201d written across the front, which were the same clothing items he was wearing when he was pulled over, officials said. Investigators found two rifles and a handgun in the van.<\/p>\n

Eklund allegedly admitted to the robbery after being taken into custody.<\/p>\n

He told police he had several mental health conditions that he was trying to get help for. He said he \u201csnapped\u201d just before allegedly robbing the bank.<\/p>\n

Eklund faces charges of bank robbery and discharging a firearm during a crime.<\/p>\n
