MESA, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Police say a man is dead, and his brother is behind bars after a shooting in a Mesa neighborhood early Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

Shortly after 4 a.m., Mesa police received reports about a person who had been shot near University Drive and Greenfield Road. Multiple callers reported hearing gunshots in the area, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

Once police arrived, they found 35-year-old Marco Lozada shot at least once. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n

Officers found several people standing outside the apartment, including the victim\u2019s brother, 32-year-old John Lozada. Court documents state Lozada told police, \u201cI shot him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Witnesses said that both brothers were drinking alcohol before the shooting. As several people went outside, they reportedly heard the brothers arguing inside the apartment followed by one gunshot. One person began yelling for help while trying to move the victim. <\/p>\n

Authorities searched the apartment and found a shell casing on the living room floor next to a large amount of blood, according to court paperwork. A handgun was also found lying on the floor in a bedroom. <\/p>\n

In an interview with police, Lozada said he had been living with his brother for the past two years, but the two had a history of \u201cphysical violence,\u201d court documents state. Lozada was reportedly drinking with the group but left to go to bed. Investigators say he told police he was woken up by loud noises, so he grabbed his gun and went to the living room.<\/p>\n

Lozada said most of the group started leaving, but his brother started \u201cgetting upset at him\u201d and began pushing and punching him in the torso, court paperwork states. He reportedly pulled out his gun, loaded it and pointed it at his brother. Police say he fired once, striking his brother in the stomach.<\/p>\n

He then told investigators hid the gun in the bedroom, but fired another round at the floor while trying to remove the magazine. <\/p>\n

Lozada was booked on one count of second-degree murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond. <\/p>\n
