{"id":390,"date":"2026-05-16T08:33:25","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T08:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=390"},"modified":"2026-05-16T08:33:25","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T08:33:25","slug":"driver-rams-cars-as-gunfire-breaks-out-at-san-luis-port-of-entry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=390","title":{"rendered":"Driver rams cars as gunfire breaks out at San Luis Port of Entry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section>\n<p><b>SAN LUIS, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Things were back to normal Friday at the San Luis Port of Entry\u2014busy, peaceful and orderly\u2014but people who were there during Thursday\u2019s chaos are still shaken after a scene that included gunfire and a driver trying to escape law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=388\">Earthquake rattles southern Arizona community<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rafael Guerrero said he was nearby when shots rang out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of nowhere, I heard shooting, and when I looked, I saw a car that was hit,\u201d Guerrero said.<\/p>\n<p>Guerrero said he was headed to San Luis, Arizona, from Mexico but decided to stop at a currency exchange business. That\u2019s when he heard the gunfire and saw the commotion unfold nearby.<\/p>\n<p>According to Guerrero, the chaos started when the driver appeared to abandon a trip into Mexico and tried to turn back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe driver was coming from the U.S into Mexico but it looked like the driver wanted to return to the U.S and in that process he hit one car and another car,\u201d Guerrero said.<\/p>\n<p>Guerrero said the driver\u2019s car collided with other cars before speeding away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw the car leave the scene very fast and law enforcement was chasing him, but I don\u2019t know if he was arrested,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Guerrero also said Friday morning he saw a social media post showing what appeared to be the same vehicle\u2014with the same dents\u2014found about a mile from the border in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=386\">Suspect in Buckeye deadly triple shooting has history of violence<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a statement to our newsroom, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said: \u201cA driver drove erratically through the southbound lanes of the San Luis Port of Entry into Mexico. The driver failed to obey CBP officers\u2019 lawful commands to stop. The vehicle continued into Mexico, where Mexican officials engaged. There was no use of force by CBP personnel and there were no injuries to port personnel or property damage to the port.
