GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A powerful monsoon storm swept through parts of the West Valley, leaving behind damaged homes and debris at the Palm Shadows Mobile Home Park.<\/p>\n

Strong winds, rain, and blowing dust hit the community, tearing carports from their supports and scattering debris across yards and neighboring properties.<\/p>\n

Residents describe the damage<\/h2>\n

Resident Jeff Gomez said the storm struck overnight. \u201cWe heard something hit the house and my wife ran out and she was like the whole carport is gone,\u201d Gomez said.<\/p>\n

Gomez\u2019s carport was ripped from its supports, leaving debris spread across his yard and into neighboring properties. \u201cI mean it was unbelievable. We were just like, \u2018Wow,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Neighbors also hit hard<\/h2>\n

Down the street, Jaqueline Devera\u2019s home also sustained significant damage. Devera said the winds were strong enough to nearly blow away half her home.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s devastating because I never thought it would happen to me,\u201d Devera said. <\/p>\n

She said she heard the storm\u2019s impact on her vehicles. \u201cI heard it land on two of our cars. Like a big thud on our cars, and I knew we were in trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cleanup and costs uncertain<\/h2>\n

Residents said cleanup is just beginning, with repair costs still unknown. Devera said she is uncertain what she will do if insurance does not cover the damage. \u201cIf my insurance doesn\u2019t pay it out, I don\u2019t know what we\u2019re going to do,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

With additional storms in the forecast, residents said they are bracing for what comes next. \u201cScared for the next one. Worried that something bad is going to happen worse than it already did,\u201d Devera said.<\/p>\n

Gomez summed up the storm\u2019s impact: \u201cYeah, it\u2019s no joke.\u201d<\/p>\n
