DANBURY, Conn. (WTIC) \u2014 A Danbury woman is facing a murder charge in connection with the 2018 death of her newborn, who prosecutors say was placed alive in a dumpster.<\/p>\n

Dominique Harrison, 28, was arrested last week after investigators questioned her multiple times. Prosecutors say she admitted to committing the crime following those interviews.<\/p>\n

Charges and court appearance<\/h2>\n

Harrison is charged with murder with special circumstances. During her Monday court appearance, several family members of the victim walked out of the courtroom in tears.<\/p>\n

Deputy Assistant State\u2019s Attorney Mary Caitlin Harding described the case in court.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour Honor, the case before you paints a picture of a level of depravity that is nearly inconceivable,\u201d Harding said.<\/p>\n

Harding said Harrison placed her newborn son alive in a dumpster in a remote area in 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cIts facts allege she put that newborn baby\u2019s son alive in a dumpster in a remote area so that no one could save that baby\u2019s life,\u201d Harding said.<\/p>\n

Investigation<\/h2>\n

The investigation began after the Stamford Police Department discovered the remains. Investigators determined the newborn was killed in Danbury, leading to an arrest warrant.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said Harrison\u2019s statements to investigators are also leading to additional inquiries.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe subsequently gave interviews after arrests that are leading to additional investigations as well,\u201d Harding said.<\/p>\n

The state described Harrison as a threat to society. Her defense attorney disagreed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough the state may paint her in a stark picture that she may post a danger to society, I don\u2019t believe that\u2019s the case. She has been actively participating in the community. She\u2019s been able to maintain full-time employment,\u201d her attorney said.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s next<\/h2>\n

Prosecutors said they are confident in their case despite evidence they cannot yet release publicly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe facts all will point to the fact that this defendant murdered her newborn child,\u201d Harding said.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors expect to bring additional charges against Harrison as the investigation continues. She is held on a $2.5 million bond and is expected back in court on July 31.<\/p>\n
