LAS VEGAS (FOX5) \u2014 A man arrested last month in connection with the death of his wife in Utah nearly two decades ago left a will and a letter in his jail cell before he died, according to a newly released report.<\/p>\n

David Vander Meer, 49, was arrested June 22<\/b> in connection with the 20-year-old death of his wife, Bernadette, at Zion National Park. <\/p>\n

Police later said Vander Meer was taken to UMC to be treated for self-inflicted injuries and was pronounced dead June 25<\/b>.<\/p>\n

According to the report, Vander Meer was found unresponsive in his cell, where he was the only one inside. <\/p>\n

Investigators said evidence at the scene indicated there was no evidence of a physical altercation.<\/p>\n

Officials also noted a handwritten will and a handwritten suicide note, the report states.<\/p>\n

Vander Meer had been charged with murder and insurance fraud in connection with Bernadette\u2019s death at Angels Landing on Aug. 22, 2006.<\/p>\n

The Washington County Attorney\u2019s Office Investigations Bureau said the case was reopened after investigators received a tip, leading to Vander Meer\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n
