MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF\/Gray News) – Officials announced the suspension of eight Apache helicopter pilots who flew in this year\u2019s Salute from the Shore event over the July Fourth weekend.<\/p>\n

According to the South Carolina Army National Guard, the pilots\u2019 suspension stems from an investigation into events from that day, but it could not share further details about an open investigation. <\/p>\n

Following reported public concerns regarding the pilots\u2019 suspensions, officials said this was a routine administrative measure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also aware of the public feedback and concerns regarding the temporary suspension of the Apache pilots involved,\u201d Major Lisa Alle said. \u201cWe want to assure the community that a temporary suspension from flight duties is a routine administrative measure whenever a flight profile is under review. This is not punitive.\u201d <\/p>\n

According to the National Guard, the pilots are continuing to work and getting paid, as they have other duties. They said they\u2019re currently suspended from flying temporarily but also remain in good standing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sincerely appreciate the strong community support for our service members,\u201d Alle continued. \u201cThe South Carolina Army National Guard holds its aviators to the highest standards of professional conduct and aviation regulations. Our absolute top priority is, and always will be, the safety of our personnel and the communities we fly over.\u201d <\/p>\n

Officials noted they could not provide further details or speculate on specific allegations, including questions about flight altitude or Federal Aviation Administration regulations, citing standard military policy and the ongoing review.<\/p>\n

\u201cConducting thorough reviews when questions arise is how we maintain those high safety standards and ensure we can safely participate in future public events. We appreciate the community\u2019s patience,\u201d Alle said. <\/p>\n

The Salute from the Shore event features vintage military aircraft flying over the Grand Strand beaches on Independence Day, where thousands were expected to attend the annual celebration. <\/p>\n
