(WBTV\/Gray News) &#8211; A North Carolina man is accused of killing his 5-year-old son at an apartment complex this week.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=3332\">8 key races to watch in Arizona\u2019s 2026 primary election<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Police said they responded to the apartment after receiving a \u201cfrantic\u201d 911 call from the boy\u2019s mother, who was there when the stabbing happened, early Thursday morning. <\/p>\n<p>According to Pineville Police Chief Corey Copley, officers immediately rendered first aid to the seriously injured boy once at the scene. They took him directly to the hospital in the back of one of the police vehicles, but he ultimately did not survive. <\/p>\n<p>As police began to investigate, they said the boy\u2019s father, 31-year-old Jehaaz-Akil Khaliq Echoles, became a suspect and was taken into custody at another location. <\/p>\n<p>Copley did not say exactly what kind of weapon Echoles allegedly killed the boy with, but he described it as a \u201cblunt force trauma-type cutting tool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Copley said the boy\u2019s mother has been cooperative with investigators. Another child was also at the apartment and uninjured. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=3331\">Extreme heat continues, plus rain and storm chances too<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Investigators noted that officers were called earlier this year for another situation involving the family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very tragic,\u201d Copley said. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to put your emotions aside and do the good work that you\u2019re trying to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Search warrants for the apartment and vehicles were obtained by police as they continue their investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Echoles\u2019 charges include first-degree murder.
