PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 The Peoria Unified School District board held its first meeting Tuesday since police raided district offices earlier this week. <\/p>\n

Parents showed up to demand answers about accusations of sexual misconduct involving two former Centennial High School teachers.<\/p>\n

The board meeting was held at Marshall Ranch Elementary School rather than the district offices because the search warrant, which began the day before the meeting, extended into a second day and kept the district offices closed.<\/p>\n

Board limits public comment<\/h2>\n

Before the meeting began, Board President Jeff Tobey made it clear that public comments would be restricted to the agenda, which covered only the district\u2019s budget. Topics that had previously been scheduled for discussion were cut from the agenda and are expected to be addressed at future meetings.<\/p>\n

Despite the restriction, at least one parent connected the budget discussion to the ongoing controversy. Several others said they attended the meeting to address the police raid and accusations. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m hoping we can use that money to invest in student safety, especially with what\u2019s been going on,\u201d the parent said.<\/p>\n

Members question comment limits<\/h2>\n

The public comment restrictions drew pushback from within the board itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a little disappointed that board comments were removed from the agenda tonight and public comment was removed from the agenda tonight by the president,\u201d board member Heather Rooks said. \u201cThis has never happened before. This is a regular scheduled meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tobey defended the decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust to bring the community along about this public hearing, this version, based on timing and us having to relocate, this version of the meeting will be about business, and there will be another meeting next week,\u201d Tobey said.<\/p>\n

Investigation background<\/h2>\n

The search warrant stems from accusations against two teachers who are accused of having inappropriate sexual relations with the same student. Neither teacher has been charged. Police are also believed to be examining whether any faculty members were aware of the conduct and failed to report it.<\/p>\n

It was not clear how many additional days Peoria Police would need to complete the search.<\/p>\n

The board went into executive session to receive legal advice on the search warrant and the investigation. The district scheduled another public meeting for next week.<\/p>\n
