(13 News) &#8211; Arizonans enrolled in the state\u2019s Medicaid program are once again eligible to receive covered services at Planned Parenthood clinics, as of Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=3159\">Brutal bill: Phoenix homeowner blames city for $2,777 water tab<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The changes come after a provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill \u2014 signed into law last July \u2014 suspended federal Medicaid funding from the nonprofit for one year.<\/p>\n<p>The restriction left 1.8 million Arizonans who rely on AHCCCS unable to use their insurance at any of the state\u2019s seven Planned Parenthood locations.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Impact on patients<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>For Planned Parenthood\u2019s Tucson clinic, the funding suspension meant turning away 10% of its patients. <\/p>\n<p>Services affected included birth control, STI testing, and cervical cancer screenings \u2014 non-abortion care that had previously been billed to AHCCCS. Abortions have never been covered under Medicaid.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Colin McCluney, a physician at the clinic, said many patients paid out of pocket or skipped care entirely during the past year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a hard year from that standpoint, just unnecessary suffering,\u201d McCluney said.<\/p>\n<p>McCluney said the population affected includes some of the clinic\u2019s most vulnerable patients.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=3157\">Suspect on the run after deadly shooting at midtown Phoenix apartment complex<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a very large population. It\u2019s often some of our most vulnerable folks. Folks who are at higher risk of complications from illnesses, complications from disease, complications from pregnancy,\u201d McCluney said. \u201cThey\u2019re the folks that need the access the most to be able to have their best potential health outcomes.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Nearly half of all births in Pima County were covered by AHCCCS in 2017, according to the <i><b>University of Arizona\u2019s Center for Rural Health<\/b><\/i>. <\/p>\n<h3><b>Expanded hours and services<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>April Donovan, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Arizona, said the organization was prepared for the funding disruption and will continue to advocate for women\u2019s care, particularly in southern Arizona\u2019s rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>She said additional federal funding cuts remain a possibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are constantly attacked at Planned Parenthood, and so we kind of know how to handle these things and how to get through and change our business plan very quickly to adjust with these changes,\u201d Donovan said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to restoring Medicaid coverage, all seven Planned Parenthood centers across Arizona are now open five days a week.
