PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 \u201cAmerica\u2019s Friendliest Airport\u201d is set for some major upgrades in the coming years.<\/p>\n

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is slated to receive more than $18 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The money is part of $1.8 billion in grants announced Thursday by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.<\/p>\n

The grants are slated to go toward runway rehabilitations, family-friendly enhancements and safety upgrades at airports across the country, according to the FAA.<\/p>\n

Sky Harbor Airport is getting $18,029,200 for the construction of a new taxiway and the reconstruction of an apron. Airports in Arizona are receiving a total of $33,517,959.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe FAA is prioritizing improving our nation\u2019s airports and ensuring we issue grants quickly and efficiently,\u201d said FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford. \u201cThis funding does more than just rebuild runways and taxiways, it modernizes the travel experience for American families, ensuring our airports are safe and ready for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Construction is underway on Terminal 3 at Sky Harbor. The terminal is getting a $326 million facelift in the North Concourse, including six new passenger gates. <\/p>\n

The new plans also include a new lounge, food and beverage options and a view of Camelback Mountain. Construction at Terminal 3 is expected to be completed in 2027.<\/p>\n
