PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Arizona officials launched a new five-year highway safety campaign Monday aimed at reducing deadly and serious-injury crashes across the state.<\/p>\n

The initiative, called \u201cArrive Alive Arizona,\u201d encourages drivers to make safer choices behind the wheel by driving sober, slowing down, avoiding distractions and wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n

Guided by the message \u201cEvery Life Counts. Every Mile Matters,\u201d officials said the campaign reflects a long-term effort to change driving behaviors, strengthen public trust and create safer roadways for future generations.<\/p>\n

The Arizona Department of Public Safety and Arizona Department of Transportation are leading the effort, with support from partners including Uber, Lyft, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and AAA.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur troopers see these tragedies every day,\u201d said AZDPS Director Col. Jeffery Glover. \u201cThey investigate the crashes, they comfort the victims, they notify families, and they carry those experiences with them long after the lights are turned off and the scene has been cleared.\u201d<\/p>\n

AZDPS Lt. Col. Davin Byrd said the campaign is built around four key areas: community education, high-visibility traffic enforcement, public outreach and partnerships with ADOT and public safety technology.<\/p>\n

Officials said the strategy is already showing results. <\/p>\n

Compared with the previous year, deadly crashes are down about 8%, serious pedestrian crashes are down about 22%, DUI arrests are up about 7%, collision-causing citations are up about 37%, and drug and weapons arrests are up more than 6%.<\/p>\n

With the Fourth of July weekend approaching, officials urged drivers to plan ahead if they plan to drink. <\/p>\n

Glover said discounted Uber and Lyft rides are being offered through the campaign to help prevent impaired driving.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to ensure more people make it home, not write tickets,\u201d Glover said.<\/p>\n

Officials said the campaign depends on shared responsibility among law enforcement, state agencies, private companies and community organizations to make Arizona roads safer.<\/p>\n
